Meaningful Use Stage 2

On September 4, 2012, CMS published a final rule that specifies the Stage 2 criteria that eligible professionals (EPs), eligible hospitals (EHs), and critical access hospitals (CAHs) must meet in order to continue to participate in the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Programs. The Final Rule also defined the new certification criteria for "2014 Edition Certified EHRs".

All providers must achieve meaningful use under the Stage 1 criteria before moving to Stage 2. Starting Jan 1st 2014, all EPs, EHs and CAHs must have EHR technology that has been certified to the 2014 Edition Certified EHR, even if they are attesting for Stage 1.

BuildYourEMR 2014 edition will help healthcare providers meet Meaningful Use Stage 2 requirements and much more, without changing their daily workflows. BuildYourEMR will leverage the same Practicization™ technology that enables infinite customization to fit the organization's existing workflows and allows providers to achieve meaningful use serendipitously.

During a recent implementation, we asked the physicians to focus on using BuildYourEMR effectively with the agreement we would incorporate Meaningful Use functionality the following quarter.  After using our solution for 3 months, we enabled the MU report.  They passed every measure.  We believe this is truly Meaningful use enabled by BuildYourEMR.

Final rule for Meaningful Use Stage 2 includes a set of changes that will apply to Stage 1. Some of these changes are applicable as early as 2013 and others go into effect in 2014. Learn about a significant change related to patient’s “ELECTRONIC” access to their health information and how it impacts you if you are in Stage 1 or Stage 2 of Meaningful Use.

Stage 1 recommended SNOMED or ICD-9 codes for recording patient problems. Stage 2 requires  the problems to be coded using SNOMED only.  If you are wondering where do you start to learn SNOMED and ICD-10 if you have been using ICD-9 codes for years - Don't worry, we have a simple 2 click solution for you.
